Where the love for people started
It started when I was a boy. My grandfather was a violent alcoholic. He beat my grandmother so badly she developed Parkinson’s. I never saw it happen. But I grew up on my father’s stories: how he gnawed the bones off the chicken because his own father would punish him otherwise; how he was made to kneel on walnut shells.
My parents protected me from all of it, and never once passed that cruelty down. I love them for that. They were present in every way but the emotional one, and honestly, how could they be otherwise? Education was a luxury in the early, raw years of post-communist Romania.
That absence became my greatest engine. I wanted to help people. I just had no idea how.
Hearing someone's story is enough to understand how fragile a life really is.
By the time I held that first camera in 2006, some part of me already knew, I was put here to tell stories.
